The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1885. Boxing Day Sports

# The annual public meeting in connejtion with the above, will be held in the Public Hall this evening for the purpose of receiving the report of the retiring committee, and to elect a new one for the ensuing term. In order thai a thoroughly representative body may be chosen, we hope that everyone in any way interested will put in an appearance. The Feilding Boxing Day Sports have been for eleven years the best of anything of the kind attempted or achieved in any township in the colony. They have been repeated year after year with-^noreasing success, and we have every confidence that the event in the near future will in its turn surpass any of its predecessors. Our sports have a colonial reputation for the liberality of the prizes offered to athletes, and the satisfaction which has invariably been given to the public. This result has in a great measure been arrived at bj the very excellent selection which ha* always been made of gentlemen who have been entrusted with the executive duties. We have every confidence . that in making the appointments thie year the same prudent discretion will , be displayed. We are also satisfied that our fellow citizens, our suburban ; neighbors, and the pleasure-loving people in other townships on the coast, will support by their presence the only established institution of tht \ kind in the district — where heads oi families may bring their wives and families to spend an enjoyable daj without fear of collision with those whose habits at public gatherings arc made objectionable by the presence oi drinking booths on the ground.
