Larsen of the Halcombe hotel, was charged on the information of Constable Meehan with a breach of the Gaming and Lotteries Act by perI mitting a raffle to take place on his licensed premises. ' Defendant admitted the charge, but pleaded ignorance of the law. ■_ His Worship pointed out that defendant was liable to a penalty of £500, but considering the circumstances he would inflict & penalty of 20s and costs. Edward Childs was charged on the information of the same officer with having committed a breach of the same act by raffling a musical instrument. Defendant admitted the charge. His Worship pointed out that defendant was liable to a penalty of £200, and inflicted a fine of 20a and costs. Dr Howard Eees v. Thomas Marsh. — Claim £4 15s 6d. This was an application to take defendant's evidence. Mr Staite appeared for defendant. Evidence was taken to be forwarded to West Oxford, Canterbury. The Court then adjourned.
