The Mayor of Wellington

The Mayor of Wellington, Mr George Fisher, made a really grand Rpeech on the No Confidence motion, and however much the Wellington press may try to ignore him, he evidently is destined to rank very high in the political world. A brown-bearded man, with big eyes and tremendous forehead, a man with a clear distinct voice, whose sentences run easily, wh«se points are easily grasped, and whose speech to-night is a most able, most ferocious attack on the Colonial Treasurer. So ferocious indeed is his attack, and so much is he applauded, tbat the gentleman in the wheeled armchair fidgets about most uneasily therein, and his "pshaw, humbug," which are quite audible," ahow that some of the ex- Hansard reporter's remarks are telling. Tho member for Wellington South has a gieat advantage in his splendid knowledge of shorthand, and as he takes verbatim notes of each speaker's best points, he can thus refer to them with euse. A big round of hearty applause greets Mr Fisher when he conclodes with a final hard smack at the Government. — " Touchstone," in Wanganui Chronicle.
