Indignation Meeting at Plamerston

A crowded meeting was held last night to denounce the clauses of the Municipal Corporation Act, under which • Councillor is liable to penalties for supplying goods te the Council in the ordinary way of trade, as derided by the B.M. in tbe case of Graff v Park, on Thursday, when defendant was fined LSO. Resolutions were unanimously carried suggesting necessary amendments in the Act, and arranging te bring the matter under notice of the Legislature this session.
The following resolutions were passed. — <1) That in tbe opinion ef this meeting it is highly necessary that any clauses affecting eonneillers by way of fine should be made clear by the Legislature, se a« to remove the danger of misinterpretation by Besident Magistrates, whoso decisions are erratic.
(2.) That in the opinion of this meeting clause 61, part of the Municipal Corporations Act should be amended "as regards contracts or work done" so as to agree with the meaning of contract or work done as speoified in clause 174, part 11, of the said Act.
(3) That in the opinion ef this meeting clause 63 ought to be amended so that any informer should be a burgess of the borough where the information is laid.
(4) That the resolutions passed at this meeting be at once forwarded to our member in Wellington, and that he be requested te take immediate action therein.
(5). That the meeting prays that the House of Representatives now in session, will immediately take these resolutions into consideration, and take suoh steps as will remove the difficulties complained of.
