Meeting of Sawmill Owners
A meeting of the above was held at the Denbigh Hotel on Saturday afternoon to consider the By-law published on July 16th ult., re private sidincp. Present — Messrs Aiken and Cornfoot, "Wanganui; Messrs Bell and Crabb, Halcombe; Mr Oorpe, Makino; Mr William Bailey, Taowu ; Mr Adsett* Manchester Reserve, Mr 0. Bull, Aorangi and Messrs P. and J. Bartholomew, Feilding. Mr Bailey presided and read the objectionable bylaw.
It was mentioned that the Ministry had promised to reconsider the by-law but it was determined not to put any faith in that promise.
Mr C. Bull proposed, and Mr P. Bartholomew seconded, That this meeting representing the whole of the*, sawmill proprietors on the FoxtonWanganui Railway line, condemn the by-law re private siding access as being calculated to interfere with and check the progress of the timber trade, while being an extra tax oa an industry now contributing very largely to the Revenue i and that a copy of this resolution be sent to Messrs Macarthur, Wilson and Bruce, M.H-R.'s
This being all the business the meeting then closed.
