At Tunbridge Wells recently, Arabella Andrews, governess, was charged with deserting her illegitimate child, aged two years. It appears she had left her situation to get married. The child had been in the charge of a woman, who threw it on the prisoner's hands just before the marriage. Fearing detection, shn deserted it, but, after a fortnight, was traced, and arrested the night before her marriage. The prisoner's solicitor pleaded that the prisoner intended to claim the child, after confessing the matter, when she was married. Her marriage was fixed for the time of the hearing, and he pleaded that a fine might be imposed, in the hope that her intended might look the matter over. A fine of £5 was imposed.
