Manchester Road Board

An ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held at its office, Manchester street, on Saturday afternoon last. Present — Messrs Bailey (in the chair), Lethbridge and Whibley. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence "was read as follows — Treasury Department, re debentures for grants under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act ; Mr A. S. Baker, solicitor, Palmerston, with bill of costs in the action of Adsett v. the Board ; Mr J. H. Hankins, solicitor, Palmerston, telegram re the same matter ; Messrs G. B. Simpson, J. Moxon, and H. Adsett, a petition to the Board to do certain works on Reid's line. Be Mr Baker's bill of costs it was resolved, That Mr Baker be informed that the claim in full had been paid to Mr Hankins. Eesolved, That Messrs P. and J. Bartholomew be requested to put the Bunnythorpe road in a proper state of repair where they have broken it up by dragging logs across. Resolved, That 150 loads of metal be carted to mend the Pohangina road, Ashurst, and leave be asked to cut scrub for about 20 chains, half a chain wide, to allow the road to dry, on the land adjoining belonging to the E. & C. A. Corporation ; and also that about 60 loads of metal be put on the Gorge road. Resolved, That the Engineer be instructed to procure metal from Palmerston by rail for the repairs of the Bunnythorpe-Ashurst roaa. Resolved, That the Clerk write to the District Railway Manager asking him to clear out the ditch on the north side of the railway from open culvert No. 48 to Nannestad's road. Resolved, That timber for the deck of the bridge on the Makino road be procured, and that a new culvert be put over Raumanga creek. With reference to the petition from Messrs Simpson, Moxon, and Adsett, it was agreed that the Engineer inspect, and report to the Board on the matter. After the passing of the accounts for payment the Board adjourned.
