The A]lge__eiae v Brauer-nnd-Hopfen Zeitung gives the following as being the most recent statistics with regard to the tax. upon spirits in Europe :- The tax yields a revenue of L18,7'25,850 in Russia, of L 1&,581,290 in Great Britain, L 14,508,000 in the United States, of L 10,603,660 in France, of L 2.334.640 in North Germany, L 1,890,450 in Holland, of Li,062,400 in Austria Hungary, arid of L 681.200 in Belgium. This is equivalent to' 9« per head of the population 'is Holland,'Bs 6d in Great : Britain',- 6s in the United States, 5s 6d in France, 4s 6d. in Ruspp, 2s 4d in Belgium, Is 3d in North Germany, and 7d in Austria-Hungary ; vffaile ' the consumption per ' head - of alcohol, is given as 2£ gallons in Denmark, two gallons in North Germany, 1$ gallon in Russia, rather less than 1£ gallon in Austria-Hungary, IJ gallon in Belgium,- If gallon in France and' Holland, one J gallonin Sweden, two-thirds. of a gallon in Great Britain, and rather less thai two-thirds of a gallon in the United States.- • ■■■_'-;■ -- '-.-*■
