Auckland, August 5. The Seaven's Union demands £10 per month for the firemen ia the Northern Steamship Company. During the previous strike the firemen voluntarilly surrendered £1 per month to be given to the seamen. They now demand the former rate. This Day. Much amusement has been caused here by the defeated candidate again trying the petition dodge. A large native meeting will be held here about the middle of this month, on the southern shores of the lake, to discuss native matters and the land court, whioh will be held some time next month. At the meeting will be Te Ifeahen, Topia. Teurau, and other influential chiefs of the Ngahtewhatetoi tribe. The native* generally have a strong tendency to havo. their several blocks of land individually, at the aext sitting of the court.
