The Fielding Star. SATURDAY, JULY 25, 1885. The ministry
Ik the whole history of the colony since representative Government wai established we do not know of any Ministry that has been so unlucky as the STovT-Voasx, combination. It may be said, with some degree of truth, that bad management has brought them to their present unenviable position, yet they cannot be held responsible for recent events which have] arisen to hamper and obstruct them: "We refer to the San Francisco mail contract, and the East and West Coast Middle Island Bailway, with the unexpected opposition to the one and new phases in the other question. In the case of the San Francisco mail contract vote, the whole of the Auckland members are pledged to support, and the Napier, Wellington, and South Island members to oppose to the bitter end; while in. the case oi f the East and West Coast Eailway, the Northern members, or a majority of them, are pledged to oppose, and the Southern members- to support, to an equally bitter- end. Between these opposing forces even . the astute Sir Juuup Vogel may well be at his wit's end. The Stoot-Vogjsi, Ministry are verily on the horns of a dilemma.: Should they extricate themselves honorably from the snares land] pitfalls which surround them, they will deserve well of the "country and secure the unqualified admiration of their most jaundiced opponentis^!*^^^^^.
