The Acclimatization Society

A meeting of the members of the Manchester and Kiwitea Acclimatization Society was held at the offices of Messrs Halcombe and Sherwill last .evening. Present — Messrs Sherwill, President (in the chair), Beattie (Secretary and Treasurer), Curtis, P. Bartholomew, Graff, Little, and Dr Johnston. The minutes of the last meeting were read and comfirmed. The following correspondence was read : — Mr Graff, covering a long letter which had been published in the Canterbury Times with reference to the introduction of grouse, reindeer, &c, into the colon}', and also the introduction of certain salt water fish from Norway, and offering his services in connection with the matter. Mr Brewer, Honorary Secretary of the Wanganui Acclimatization Society, on the subject of American trout, and the hatching of trout at Wanganui, advocating the introduction of fullgrown instead of small fish. The letter made reference to the hatching process adopted by Mr Beetham, of Masterton. Dr Johnston proposed and Mr Curtis seconded, That the President write to Mr Beethan, ascertaining the cost of a number of large fish, and also all particulars with reference to their being conveyed here. — Carried. The Secretary announced that tho sum of £36 15s had been received from tbe Colonial Secretary and lodged in the bank as the Society's share of the licensing fees received by the Government. The following accounts were received and passed for payment: — Star, £2 12s fid ; Advocate, £2. Mr Sherwill proposed, and Dr Johnston seconded, That three members of the Society form a quorum to transact business. — Carried. Resolved, That the President, VicePresident, and Treasurer be empowered to operate on the bank account, and that lists be prepared and handed round for signatures of persons willing to become members. This comclnded the business.
