At a well attended meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce held to-day several series of resolutions condemnatory of the proposed alteration in the Customs tariff were agreed to. The resolutions affirmed that in the opinion of the Chamber the new tariff is calculated to be prejudicial not only to the agncul* tural and commercial, but also to the manufacturing and general interests of the colony. Wklujtotow, June 29. At a special meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce a renolutioa was unanimously passe t deprecating any important change in the tariff of 1882. Auckland, June 29. At a meeting of the Auckland Cham* ber of Commerce the proposed increase of oustoms tariffs duties was condemned. ■ WBLLiNQTOjr. This Day. The Premier has written to the chair* man of the meeting of members, which met yesterday to consider the proposed tariff, and stated it is the intention of the Government to carefully and thoroughly scrutinise the many suggestions before bringing down the Customs Duties Bill. At a meeting of the members again this morning a resolution was passed placing on record its disapproval of any increase in the Customs duty at the present time.
