Kiwitea Road Board.

■ • \ An ordinary monthly meeting oft the Board was held at its office, Manchester etreet, on Saturday last at noon. Present —Messrs Taylor (chairman) Bruce, Tjveman, Saxon, and Williamson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read: —McKenzie Bros, asking for a transfer oa rate book for sectieas 257 and 260 to Richard Burrel ; J. H. Hunter, re cost of hia maintainence in • Wanganui hospital ; H. Madsen, re maintenance of his wife in the hospital ; Thomas Smith, asking for an extension of time ou his contract on Cheltenham cross road ; Kiwitea Licensing Committee, stating that they were ia favor of receiving 10« for 1 each meeting ; The engineer, reporting that he had received the following tenders, and had accepted that of T. Smith for Cheltenham cross road :— Smith 34s 6d Jper chain. J. Aitken 57s 6d, Younger and Laing 47s 6d ; for Bryce read he had received two tenders at 4s 5d per cubic yard, which he considered excessive, and had declined them; Mr S. Goodbehere, solicitor, re case against the Wangnnui Harbor Board, and enclosing authority to sue, which was duly agreed upon and sealed. Mr Hunt waited upoa the Board with a petition from the settlers on the eastern side of the Pohangina ward, askine the Board to divide the ward, also with a petition reopening up the roads ia said ward. '! ' The following resolutions were passed : : That alteration oa rate roll from ,\ McKenzie Bros, to R. Burns be made as requested. That Mr Smith be granted an extensien j of one month for completion ef his con- j tract on Cheltenham eross road. ' j That Mr Madsen be allowed ene month for payment fer maintenance of his wife in the hospital, nnd that he be informed that if he cannot then pay he must make a proposal to the Board. That the engineer's acceptance of Smith's tender fer Cheltenham cross road At £43 6d he confirmed, That considering the high prioe of tenders for Bryce roal, consideration of the work be held over till uext spring, or •uek time aa tbe work can be carried out. Tho chairman reported that Pemberton'i tender for continuation of Cheltenham cress read was a mistake on the part of the Telegraph Department, and it should have been £18. It was then resolved. That Pemberton' s leader at £18 be accepted. Mr Hunt was informed that tbe division of the Pohangina ward could not be made at present, but the matter would be kept ia view by the Board. The following further resolutions were then passed: — That tbe Engineer call for tenders or inake private arrangements as he thinks heat for clearing a roid line oa the Upper end of Mr McKay's road. That the secretary mile to the Govern-

ment, enclosing requisition with signatures from ratepayers residing en the east side of the Pohangina ward request--1 ing that ihe road in that part of the district be at once completed, for which money was voted, and contract let by Government some 18 months' ago. That the clerk write to the members ot the Licensing Committee, informlug them that a resolution has already been passed 1 by the Kiwitea Board to the effect that j no payraeut will be made to the members , : of the committee except actual travelling 1 expenses, lf ihe members wish to try ; the legality of the Board's action they I will have to take legal proceedings in the ' matte.*. Accounts amounting te £374 15s lOd 1 , were passed for payment, and the Board ! then adjeiurned.
