Kiwitea Road Board
An ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held on Saturday last • at noon. Present — Messrs 'fajlot fc (Chairman), Bryce, Saxon, and Wil- * liamsen. ) The minutes of the. previous meeting were read and confirmed. , The following correspondence was f read: — t Treasury Department, acknowledgI ing receipt of debentures for Cheltenham Cross road, for £9 10s 6d each ; ' Town Clerk, Wanganui, enclosing ac--1 counts for hospital patients and staff 1 expenses; Younger and Laing, requesting an extension of time for their , bridge contract on Mackay's line; > report of Engineer, with tenders i received for metaUing Cheltenham Cross road, and stating that he had 1 accepted Smith's tender at £1 14s 6d per chain. Re the hospital matter, it was re. Bolved, That the Oierk he instructed to write to the parties .concerned, enclosing bills, informing them of their liability, and asking what they propose to do, as the Board are not liable except in cases of destitution. An authority, to Mr Goodbehere to sue the Wanganui Harbor Board for rates was signed and sealed. The bank balance for the half year ending 13th of April was certified to as correct. Ah extension of time of 14 days was granted to -granger and Laing, the f ull penalty to be inflicted if the contract be not completed 'within said time. yyyy. .., Resolved, That the members of ths Licensing Committee be informed that the Board will only aUow their actual travelling expenses. ' The Engineer was authorised to have the low places *n .^fryce's road metalled, cost not to exceed amount fixed on by the, Board. , .. Mr C. Bull waited on the Board re metalling the Cheltenham Cross road, from the hotel to a point five* flhaiw beyond the present formation, and offered to advance the money for the work for 12 months, d yy ,* Resolved, That the Emrinear bo empowered to advertise for and'£ecept tenders for metalling about SQioheina of Cheltenham Gross road; price not to exceed that fixed on by thel_toar<LMr Bull promised to allow the Board to take the required land for t\ deviation on the above-named road at £5 per acre. ■ • \ •<;.-• Resolved, That the engineer lay off the proposed deviation and report at the next meeting. \ •••>■-■ The following tenders were opened for continuation of work on said rpad: -^Formation 7_- chains an<L culvert, and clearing 25 chains -reepectively— - R: M. Pemberton, £9 and 14s; J. . Melton, £3 per chain for first work ;
Blythe and Gould, £3 2s fid ditto; JSinpaonandNorthcott, formation, £24 10s and clearing £2; J. Behrendt, £25 and £1 10s 5 Younger and Laing, £29 and £1 ; J. Aitken, £45 15s for the whole. Mr Pemberton's tenders were accepted. Messrs Taylor and Williamson were authorised to sign cheques at this meeting. . Mr Taylor was re-appointed Chairman of the Board for the ensuing year. Accounts amounting to £832 -3s ld were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
