Ministers
The absence of the Hons. Messrs Tole and Buckley from the seat of Government at a time when they should be attending to the business of their respective departments, will surely be explained at the proper time and place. These gentleman are now in Wanganui acting as Commissioners in the Bkyce-Rusdeit case in their private capacity as lawyers. We have every faith in the honor of these gentlemen, and do not believe for one moment that they would employ their time, for which the Colony pays them at the rate of £1250 per annum, in any other way than in the service of their employers. We have carefully examined the Gazettes, and as we find no mention of their several resignations, we may assume that the fees if any, received for services as Commissioners, will be duly paid into the Treasury, or does the Premier think that the country will be best served by the absence of these gentlemen from the meetings of the Cabinet while important measures are being perfected, *Jand that they will earn their salaries best by keeping out of the way ?
