Insurance
In our - correspondence column $o*day appears a letter over the signature of " Indignant," which contains a charge • of extortion against the Insurance Companies doing business in Feilding, a charge which is, we believe, admitted by the said companies, and, in some mysterious w,«yj known only to themselves— justified. We certainly endorse the views of our correspondent, so far as recommending a meeting of insurers goes, to endeavour to force a reduction ef the rates to the same level as those north of the Bangitikei River,' but we 'would not exclude the local agents, for in nearly every case such agonta . are property holders who effect large insurances on their own account, and are therefore equally interested in securing a low tariff. In fact they are interested doubley in gottiog lesser rates, for. the prepont tariff is in a great degree prohibitive. Wfc hope that our." indignant" 1 friend will take the initiative, and* promise . him pur hearty support, ia what Tever^actiqn he takes so long as it is perfectly in accordance with good faith and liberal public spirit.
