INSURANCE.

*O THS KDITO3 OP IHI VSAMi

Sir, — In talking to an insurance agent the other day in Martos, I was simply, astonished to find that the various companies were doing business in that town ior at least forty per cent lesd than in Feilding, or (as the agents here say) any town on this side of the Rangitikie River. Now, Sir, I hare been wondering "how can these things be." The Marton agent explained that it was because of the lively competition of the agents there. But why is the competition allowed to have this effect ? Does it not look as if the agents there had determined; unitedly to resist the monstrous imposition of the ruinous rates, .other towns groan beneath. Whatever mode of action on their part brought around so desirable a result, we are shut up to this conclusion; that the local agents in the various towns have it entirely in their hands to stop the wholesale robbery of the policy, holders by the companies. And where,. this, is not done, the agents simply sell themselves and their neighbours tfor the miserable profits acrueiag from the business done by them. In speaking to one local, agent ' about the matter, he cheerJWflv agreed to unite with the others in Feilding and step the swindle. I would sujest that insurers uhd art not dgetito, ht ence* to hold a meeting, and* boldly request the local agents to do as others have; done elsewhere.— l am, &c,, k ; ■ j , , ■ ,-■-,, IyPK^KAffT.
