The Chinese Goverament and General Gordon

The Lord Mayor has received the following letter from his Excellency the Chinese Minister :—•• Chinese legation, , March B.— The Marquis Tseng presents his oohplimentsto the Lord Mayor and begs to state that having brought to the notice of the Imperial Government and of that of certain Chinese Viceroys the tact that a committee, under the auspices of the Lord Mayor, had been formed with the view of erecting some kind of memorial of the lamented General Gorden, he haß been requested to forward the accomplishment of that object, viz. : From the Chines Government, £20? and from his Excellency Li-Hung-Chane, Viceroy ofChihli,£2oo."
