Government Service Reductions
(PBB UKITID PBRM ASSOCIATION). Wellington, This Day. A redaction is being made in the Surrey Department and 35 officers in rations parts of the colony hare receired notice that their services are to be dispensed with. The saving to the colony will be about £18,000. The saving ia not so large as the Government at first intended, but Mr McKerrow the Survey-or-General is unable to further reduce his staff without seriously injuring the Bervice and causing public inconvenience. The real cost of the Surrey Department will this year show a much ltrger reduction by several thousands as the salaries of a large number of officials who are engaged throughout the colony revising plans under the Land Transfer Department, which hare appeared under the head of Surveys, are te be charged to the Transfer Department.
