DESPATCHES FROM GORDON.
HIS LAST WORDS. [BBUTBBS TELEOBAMB.J Xeceired February 24, 1.5 a.m. London, February 23. Despatches received by the Govern meat from General Gordon, at Khar toum, have been published. The last is dated December 14, and shows that Khartoum was reduced to the last extremity, and fighting was going on daj an.i night. The city was beseiged by the rebels on three sides. Gordon con eluded his letter with these words " Come: quick I" Further despatches dated November 14th said he could hoi; I out easily for forty days, but nfierwar-'K there would be difficulty. He added that there were five steamers at Metemneli waiting Wolseley's orders. Bcceivad February 24. 12.30 p.m. Sydney, This Day. The -Patriotic Fund now amounts to £80,000. An objection has been urged as to t "up legality of the action of the Gorernment in despatching New South Wales troops to Soudrfni'and a petition to the Governor against the expedition is being prepared.
