The latest telegrams to hand from Korti report that the enemy is harassing the British at Abuktea, to which place Sir Bedrert Buller recently retired from Gubat, and it is stated that he will fall back on Gakdul as soon as the necessary camels arrive at Abuklca. Sydn by. February 2 1 . There was a meeting yesternight in connection with the Patriotic Fund. The principal speakers were Sir Jam«s Martin (Chief Justice), the Hon. Edmund Barton (Speaker of the Assembly), and Sir Patrick Jennings Resolutions were passed' confirming the objects of the meeting. The total amount subscribed now amounts to over £15,000. The preparations for the despatch of troops are now complete. l London, February 19. The of the Mahdi on El Metomneh is causing grave anxiety. The War Office authorities have requested New South Wales te send a light battery to Suakiin: The notice of motion given by Sir Stafford Northcote in the House of Commons censures the resultless sacrifices of the Government and the necessity of establishing a stable Government in Egypt and parts of the Soudan. The Gear Meat Preserving Company will ship by the steamer Tekapo. via Sydney, tomorrow, 1,100 cases of preserved meat, the total amount being 60,400 pounds. The shipment is intended for the-S©udan. The company are prepared to hare 600 more cases in a day or two if necessary.
