Mr Macarthur at Halcombe

Mr Macarthur, M.H.R., addressed a meeting of his constituents in the Halcombe school house on Thursday

evening. Mr J. Purkiss was voted to the chair.

Owing partly to the news of a fatal accident having shortly before reached the township, and the fact that many of the electors were away from home on various contracts, &c, the attendance was not so large as it would doubtless otherwise have been.

The address was substantially the same as had been delivered at Palmerston and Feilding, and was listened to with great attention and interest.

At its conclusion Mr William Bell proposed, and Mr F. J. Bealing seconded, That a hearty vote of thanks and confidence be accorded to Mr Macarthur.

This was carried unanimously, and the meeting closed with the usual courtesy to the chairman.
