Fatal Accident at Halcombe

A fatal accident occurred near Halcombe on Thursday afternoon last. It appears that the deceased, whose name was Otto Nofkei, was engaged with another man in taking down a fall of gravel at Neilson and Managh's contract on the Makara road. The fall suddenly gave way, burying the deceased and crushing him to death. The other man escaped with a few bruises. As far as can be learned no blame can be attached to anyone. An inquest is to be held, full particulars of which appear. THE inquest. An inquest was held at the Halcombe Hotel this morning by G. M. Snelson, Esq., Coroner, after which the jury returned a verdict of accidental death, wish a rider to the effect that when a fall of gravel is being taken there should be another man on the look out for danger.
