. [bkuter's telegrams. j Melboubkk, January 29. A fire occurred to-day in Bnrnswick and resulted in the total destruction of the residence of the late Hon. Mr Sumner. The damage is estimated at LB.OOO. The race for the Geelong Cup was run to-day, and resulted as follows : - Camerine, 1 ; Athenian, 2 ; Plausible, 3. Stdnet, Jan. 29. The passenger Berlin, who was injured at the Cootamundra railway accident, died to-day. The inquest on the bodies of those killed at the Cootamundra railway accident was concluded to-day. The verdict of the jury found that the Government were guilty of negligehce-in not supplying a larger en 1 vert at the scene or the accident, and Uiat the catastrophe might have been prevented if the gnng fitters had been supplied with more than one lamp. __^____^____
