Sawmill Accident

A sad accident happened at Messrs Bartholomew's sawmill this morning between 10 and 11 o'clock. A youth named Septimus W. Mansell was engaged in sawing shingles, when by some means his left hand came in contact with the saw, which nearly severed three of his fingers, as well aa woundinganotherfingerandthethumb. The unfortunate lad fainted with the pain and loss of blood, and was soon . as possible conveyed to Dr Johnston, who found it necesary to amputate two fingers, and it is not yet certain whether a similar operatian will not have to be performed with the other finger. It is a sad misfortune, as the lad was one of the breadwinners of the widowed mother and family, for whom great sympathy is felt.
