A man named George Smith was fishing at Pigeon Bay on Tuesday, when his boat upset and he was drowned. Two men who were with him managed to swim ashore. A boy, five years old, son of Sergt. Brooks, Akaroa, left home at 2 p.m. " on Tuesday, and has not sino&" been heard of, although a search jjarty'.;* scoured the hills all night. He is supposed to have been drowned in the - harbour.
OuNEDur, This Day.
At Waikouaiti, near Tapanui, any Gavender, a well-known settler, has been drowned. He took a short cat to his house at night, and it is believed walked accidentally into the water.
