The Boxing Day Sports
At the Feilding sports on Boxing Day a new Wellington aspirant to pedestrian honours made a very successful dibut hi the person of Mr J. M. Ring, the wellknown football player. Mr Kxng started well by winning the Maiden Race, 150 yards, and next, with 7 yards start, carried off the 100 yards Handicap. In the _ Open Quarter-mile Handicap ne had aw easy task with 25 yards start, hut had theS misfortune to. slip in the mud when leading close to the tape. . Although he actually crossed the winning line in hia fall he was disqualified for not having breasted the tape. He made amends for this : disappointment by winning the Champion 200 yards, beating three other competitors. Considerable -eminent was caused by the. allotment of starts in the Manchester Handicap, 1 mile, in which thfe wellrkuown Dunedin; runner Organ, who could have won the race from scratch, was allowed 35 yards start. Of conns, he had only to canter to win. .In thi. race, A. Young, a son of IS£ Andrew Young, a son of Mr Andrew > Young, of tbis city, finished third, running most pluckily, and by bis position at the finish landing a wager of £10 to £1 which he had taken that he would nc*t get " a plaoo.— Post.
