Falmerston Races

Tho races at Palmerston yesterday were highly successful. The weather, though threatening in tho morning, turned out fine, and during the afternoon the attendance was very large. There must have been some 2,000 persons present. The recent rains rendered the course very heavy and sloppy, but the racing was splendid, some of the wins being exceedingly popular. With the exception of the hack races, the fields were small, but the capital racing more than compensated for this drawback. The totalisator, in charge of Mr Abrahams, was weU patronised, something like £1,600 passing through the machine on the whole events. Somo good dividends were paid out, one of the hack races yielding a dividend of £26. Duiingtheday two jockeys came to grief, but neither were seriously hurt.
