Manchester Rifles
A meeting of the council of the Man--Chester Rifles was held at the E. & C.A. Corporation offices on Saturday night last. Present — Oapt Macarthur (in the chair). Lieut Blackmore, Sergts Bildor* beck and Evans, and Vol Kirton. The minute? of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The sum ot £6 haring been allotted to the corps by the Government for the district prize firing, it was resolved to divide it into G prizes. It was resolved, That the Manchester Rifles be raised to a Garrison Cor|»s, and that the required number of recruits be admitted into tho ranks to bring up the strength. The services of a garrison band having been tend <- red, it was resolved to accept them, and that the officers of the corps make all necessary arrangements with the members thereof. The accounts of the ball committee were read and passed. It was a financial success. The resignations of several members who had been connected with the former band of the corps, were received and accepted, while several others from active members were held over in view of tho new arrangements to como into force, and the consequent probability of them being withdrawn. The ranges for the district prize firing were settled, and they will be notified by advertisement. The council then adjourned.
