Kiwitea Road Board
An ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held at its office Manchester street yesterday afternoon. Present — Messrs Taylor (chairman), Bruce, Williamson., Saxon., and Bryce. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The bank's statements of the debit and credit account of each ward respectively were read, compared with the books, and certified to by the chairman as correct. The following correspondence was lead: — Mr Hankms, solicitor, re the Harbor Board rate case ; Mr Thomas Sinclair re improvements and cutting required in Pohangina road; Mr E. Goodbehere, applying for appointment as registrar of dogs for the Board; Manchester Eoad Board re expenditure on Wilson's line; District Survey office re deviation on Maekay's line ; Treasury office advising payment into bank to the Board's credit of rates for lands held by the Government; Mr Charles Bray, senr., report of his inspection with the District Surveyor, of Pohongina road; same re the estimated cost of culverting, &c., on xoad leading from Wilson's line to section 313. It was resolved, That the clerk ior--ward Mr Bray's report re Pohangina road to the Government, with a request that the work required may be pushed on to completion. After a conversation on the matter of the proposed deviation of Mackay's iine, it was resolved, That the clerk write to owners of sections 186 and 184 stating that the Board is prepared to complete the purchase from them of the portions of land, required for the deviation of the road. The question of the dog tax was considered, Mr Saxon proposed, an! Mr Williamson, seconded, That the registration fee for the ensuing year be 5s each for all cattle and sheep dogs used for stock purposes, and 10s for sporting and all other dogs. After discussion and consulting the Dog Registration Act the motion was carried. Besolyed, That Mr E. Goodbehere be appointed registrar of dogs to the Board at the remunation fee of 2s per dog. Mr Brooker waited on the Board re his cfoiTn for wages for work done on Bmith's contract on Perry and If cßeth's line. Considerable discussion followed as to the liability of the Board to pay Mr Bmitb.'s late workmen. The minute of a former resolution j on the subject, and the general conditions of the Boards contracts were referred to, after which it was resolved, That all claims due to Mr Smith's late workmen for work done on Perry and Mcßeth's line be paid forthwith as per achedule, and that Mr Death's claim of £2 be also paid on same conditions. After the passing of accounts for payment the Board adjourned.
