Meeting of the Teachers' Association
A meeting of the southern branch of the above was held on Saturday last at the public school, Marton, and at which there was a good attendance of both sexes. The following was the business done:— Proposed by Mr T. L. Brown, seconded by Mr Guthrie, and carried Unanimously, That Mr R. C. Dowling take the chair. Letter read from the Rev F. Parkes regretting his inability to be present. On the motion of Mr Slipper it was resolved, That the rules of the North Canterbury Teachers' Association, as passed at the meeting of the institute field at Wanganui, be adopted here. The following gentlemen were elected as officers of this branch : — Mr T. L. Brown, president; Rev F. Parkes, secretary; Mr R. C. Dowling, treasurer. The following —ere elected as com-mittee-.—Messrs Pilkington, Flood, Thompson, Guthrie, and Miss Wilton. After some discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Pilkington, That the quarterly meetings of this association be held at the following places, viz., Marton, Feilding, Halcombe, and Palmerston, in order of rotation. Mr Guylee moved and it was resolved, That the next meeting be held at Feilding on the first Saturday in April 1885 at 12 o'clock noon. The President kindly promised to to read a paper at the next meeting on " Class Management." Proposed by Mr Flood and carried ■unanimously, That a vote of thanks he accorded to Mr Parkes for the interest he has taken and the trouble ho has been put to in establishing the present association. After a vote of thanks to the chairman the meeting adjourned.
