A disastrous boiler explosion occurred to-day at Billstone, Staffordshire. Four persons were killed, and twenty injured. The jury, in the trial of Captain Dudley and Stevens, mate of the yacht Mignonette, for the murder of Richard Parker, referred the case to the Special Court, and recommend the prisoners to mercy. Accused have now been released on bail. The Right Hon. Mr Fawoett, Post-master-General, is suffering from a severe attack of pneumonia. Later. — Mr Fawcett died this afternoon, aged 51. Lord Derby has stated that the New Guinea and Pacific decision is final, but ho admitted that the protectorate means annexation. | Sir Moses Montefiore. wbo has been suffering from a bronchial attack is recovering. New Yobk, November 6. The Presidency election is still unfinished. The probable result is still uncorcain. Washington, Nov. 6. Ifc is generally believed that Blame will be elected to the Presidency. The result is still uncertain, and tho election is being very keenly contested on both aides. ' Received November 8, 0.55 a.m. Pabis, Novomber 6. Soma cases of cholera have occurred here and the outbreak has caused considerable alarm. Twonty-one case 3of cholera, thirteen of which have proved fatal, havo occurcd in this city since Wednesday last. Strict precautions havo been adopted by tho authorities to prevent the spread of the disease.. London, November 7. • In the H ouse of Commons last night the Franchise Bill came up for discussion aud the second reading of the measure was moved by Mr Gladstone. It is currently stated here that direct negotiations for the settlement of affairs in the East havo again been commenced by tho French and Chinese Governments. The rumors that the British Government have offered to mediate between the French and Chineae prove to be correct, and tho official announcement to that effect was made yesterday. In its issue this morniugthe Daily News publishes a telegram from its correspondent in Washington announcing the election of Governor Cleveland to tho Presidency of the United States.
