Bank of New Zealand
The sixteenth day of October is now set apart as a special holiday to conimeniorate the founding of the Bank of JSew Zealand. It well deserves the honour.- As- A monument of business sagacity and enterprise it has no rival injtho colony. From a mere.local concern ifc has become one of the great banking institutions of the age, with ramifications spreading over the globe ; liko the British Empire it is an institution on which tho BVD never sets. Its fortunes and interests are inseparably bound up with those of the colony, and it is de facto the Bank of New Zealand. The23 rd anniversary was celebrated by the Head Office by a cricket match and a picnic in the 1 >omain. The General Manager and Inspector were on the ground, while the Manager showed his muscle with the willow. The able Accountant and his no less able Lieut. were assiduous in their attendance on the ladies ,of whom there was a considerable sprinkling on the field. The match was Britons v. The World, and The World won, but as The World was composed mostly of Britons, and it was all in the family, the credit of victory is not likely to affect the general harmony. How "the day they celebrate" has been enjoyed by the members of the institution in other parte of the world we are not in a position to say, but we hope they hare all spent as happy an outing as the head quarters ■tag.— Free lance.
