Education Board
• • The ordinary monthly meeting of the Education Board was held on Tuesday at the Board's offices. Present— Messrs Watt (chairman), Sanson, Koss, Bridge, Bates, Taplin, and Baker. Afpointmbmts Cohmittbb— The following business was done in committee : —Bulls: The committee wrote, recommending the appointment of Miss Scott as pupil teacher. Resolved, That the Board will consider the matter when the attendance returns are received. Kimbolton : Mr Templar to be appointed for one month, and continuance to be subject to the Inspector's approval. Makino Road. On the recommendation of the Inspector Miss Diamond was appointed a fourth class pupil teacher. Beaconsfield : Mr Coventry was recommended in pla.e of Mr Calamv. Nbw Member.— The board then opened the voting papers received from the committees in connection with the vacancy on the board. The votes were for Mr Fry, 31 ; Monrad, 8 ; Thynne, 6. Mr Fry was consequently declared elected. Payment of Pupil Teachkbs.— A communication was received from the Education Department in reference to the salaries of pupil teachers ; and after lome discussion it was resolved that tite regulations committee be appointed to consider the letter and bring up a report at next meeting ; the committee to neel at 7 p.m. on the Monday previous to next meeting: Stakway School.— The inspector wrote, stating that the chimney of the Stanway School was in an unsafe state, and recommending that blinds bo supplied to the school. Resolved, That blinds be supplied, and the matter of the chimney ' referred to the committee. Scholarships Examination— A letter was received, stating thut the examination for scholarships at the Wellington College would be held in January. Resolve: 1 ., That circulars bo sent to the different schools in due course, and that the same circular draw attention to the scholar fillips to be com* eted for by the Wanganui Collegiate School. Teitant Insfi:ctoe. —The Secretary staled that duriug the quarter. there had been a general falling off of scholars, to the amount. pf 88, in all the school. under the bopird. while in the Wanganui schools there was an increase of 30 since the truant inspector had been appointed.— On the motion of Mr Sanson, seconded by Mr Ross, the secretary was instructed to again inform the committeewhere the attendance had fallen off that a truant inspector should be appointed . This was ali the business, and tin board adjourned at 10 minu'es to I o'clock. — Chronicle.
