Sailed, this evening — The Union Company's steantship Wakatipu for Wellington. Tawhiao and other Maori chiefs are among the passengers. Received October 9, 1 a.m. Mklboubne. October 8. Sailed, this afternoon, the Union steamship Te Anau. for the Bluff. The following scratching for the Melbourne Cup are posted : — Comet, Hvnt>y Dew, Prince Imperial, and Tomboy. Sydney, This Day. Tawhiao did not leave by the Whkatipu on Tuesday as telegraphed. He ■will be a passenger for Auckland by the Wairara on the 16th inst. ■ ! The steamship Madgus 246 tons bound from Sunderlahd to this port foundered at sea off Port Macquarie on the New South Wales coast. All on board were, however, saved.
