Marine and harbours, L 33.989; vote passed. Miscellaneous services (s.s. Hinemoa), L 2500. On a division the vote passed by 60 to 18. Stamp Department, L 7341; passed. Lands and Deeds Registry, L 19,625; vote passed. Postmaster- General and Commissioner of Telegraphs Department: General post office, L 7463. passed ; chief offices and sub-offices, LI 14,908, passed as printed. Vote for Minister for Eduction was next considered. The item bead office L 2581 and public schools L 286.235 were agreed to. Native schools, L 14.500; passed. Industrial schools, LI 5,921 ; passed. Higher education. L 2600. This then provoked a good deal of discussion. Guinness moved that the vote be reduced by LI BOO. The Premier would not agree to a reduction, arguing that it was impossible to obtain a good system of secondary education without State aid; passed as printed: Miscellaneous (grants to libraries), L 400 0; passed. House rose at 2.50 a.m.
