A Crime Unfolded by a Bog

A dog has just been the hero of an episode in Faris worthyof record with the deeds- of the famous -doe of Montargis. About a year ago the dismembered portions of a humaii body were iband-ih the Seine, near Pont Neuf ; but, tuough ah inquest on these-remainis-prdved. that murder had been- committed, no success followed the endeavours -to find tb^ murderer. ! It 'chanced, -however, some time afterwards, that a dog was remarked whining' about the river banks near th<e the Pont Neuf, and it was ascertained that the animal belonged to a shopkeeper who ha<i been missing from his home since the end of April. The clue was followed up. It shortly transpired that on a certain day the tradesman, with his favttorite dog, had pone to the lodgings of a cafe waiter named Mielle. The' latter*s neighbours deposed to hearing screams and cries of help issuing from the rooms, and it was found that the waiter had since disappeared, after causing a couple of boxes containing something heavy to be removed from his lodgings to a hotel near, the river. It is conjectured that the dog witnessed the ghastly .dismemberment of his mis ter's body, and followed the murderer when he went to throw it into the feeine. r Enough was learned, in fact, to induce the polic to issue a warrant for the arrest ot the waiter, which has just been effected at Barsur-Aube, Jlielle confessing the crime.
