[hb united press association.] Wellington, Sept. 17. . PENSIONS BILL. Tbe Pensions Bill was reported with amendments, and on the motion for the third reading being put, Mr. Wakefield moved, That it be read that day six months. The original motion was carried by 34 to 29, and the bill read a third frifnA and passed. BILL DISCHARGED. The Property Assessment Act Repeal Bill was discharged from the Order Paper. AFFIRMATION BILL. Bir George Grey moved the second reading of the Affirmation in Lieu of Oaths Extension Bill, which was carried, and ordered to be committed on the 3rd October. PBOPERTT TAX AMENDMENT. Sir George Grey moved the second reading of the Property Assessment Act Amendment Bill, which provides that in assessing the value of real property the V value of all improvements shall be deducted, and such reduced value shall be taken to be the value which is liable to taxation under the Act.

The Premier said it was impossible for tbe Government to agree to the bill this session, as it would interfere with their financial proposals. He asked the mover to withdraw the bill.

Major Atkinson thought the measure should receive more attention at the hands of the Government:

Mr Ballance supported the bill, but thought it would be more complete were there more exemptions than the measurs proposed. Messrs Gillies and Tu*nbnll defended the bill against ths charges which had bf" 1 " made.
