Kiwitea Road Board
A monthly meeting of the Board was held at its office, Manchester street, yes* terday afternoon. Present — Messrs Taylor (chairman), Bryce, Williamson, Bruce, and Saxon.
. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed.
The following correspondence was read: — Crown Lands Commissioner's Office, re the land to be set apart by Government for a cemetery for Kiwitea; Public Works Office, a circular re debentures for grants under the Roads aricßßridges Construction Act ; F. Bismark_and 3 t Taylor, Beacons field, re change of nameon rate roll ; District Survegrorj re the cemetery reserve. " " JM-. It was resolved, with reference to the application received at -the lost peering from Messrs Irwin' and Goodman for permission to erect gates on the read near their properties, That they-be allowed to erect gates on condition that they have a proper spring fastenlbg~a*Ei;ac_ted, and the approaches be either metalled or corduroyed, and the words ** public road" be paint ed on the top bars of gates, the whole to be subject to the approval of the Engineer.
Mr Bruce called attention to the-desir-ableness of sufficient timber being left oa the Cheltenham cross road-' for bridges and culverts, and it was agreed to leave the matter in the bands of the Engineer.
Mr Taylor called attention to the smallness of one or twolculverts'-sbn Perry and Mcßeth's line, and it was understood the engineer would attend to the matter.
It was resolved, That the Commissioner of Crown Lands be requested by this Board to reserve a site for a public cemetery at the top of Kimbolton road, -•-.nd as the survey proceeds that two other such sites be reserved— one on the western side and the other in a central position in the district. Aa I Mr Bray presented the financial statej ment of T. Smith's contract oh_?e»ry and ' Mcßeth's line. ' y A discussion on the Bt^j^^fbflowed, resulting in the Board agreeing to pay the claims of the men who had been employed oh the work as '_00-tfin it was finished. / , A conversation was held ofi the subject of a deviation of the continuation of Pohangina road, after which 'it was resolved, Tbat the Clerk write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands asking if be would be willing to make a deviation •whereby the swamp on the /present road would be avoided. The matter of a fire proof safe for the use of the Board was agiun r cpnßye:red, further price lists being laid onue tabic. It was resolved, That the Clerk write to Messrs Holcroft and Richards, instructing them to forward a .areas per price quoted, viz., £12. r .. Accounts amounting to i £97 8d were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
