Post Office Secrecy
When the Hon. Mr Habt moved in the Upper House for a return of all monies sent through the post office by money orders to the promoters of sweeps during certain months, the Hon. Mr Mantell, with the natural instincts of a gentleman, objected to the motion on the grounds that it would be violating the secrecy of the post office. The Colonial Secretary urged the mover to withdraw his motion, as it was impracticable. The protest of Mr Mantkll and the objections of Mr Buckley fell unheeded, and the hon. gentlemen of the Upper House passed a motion which, if carried into effect, will be a violation of that confidence which is reposed in the post office and its oilicials by the public at large.
