Fei ding Borough Council

A meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday evening last to receive tht* Engineer's report re the Warwick street bridge. Present — the Mayoir- and Crs Goodbehere, Worsfold, Fowles, Carthew, Higgin, Thompson, and Richardson. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. * A letter was read from Mr W. S. Staite asking for compensation for Mr Blackmore for the damage done to his property through the late flood. ' The Engineer's report on the bridge advised in substance as follows : — To \ construct a pile bridge with abutments aud wings of sheet piling ; to throw out a protective work of logs &c, about the site of the bridge, so as to conserve the bank lower down, and keep the stream as straight as possible, and prevent serious injury in the future ; to cut away the eastern bank for a short distance above the road boundary; that the bridge be not floored, as the extra expenditure would not be compensated for by any advantage ; that the bridge be a single span about 27 feet wide on the square, add 33 feet on the skew. It was moved by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Or Higgin, That the Mayor be. requested to see the manager ef the Bank of Australasia with the view of arranging for an overdraft in order to meet the expense of the erection of a new bridge in Warwick street. Carried. Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Richardson, That the Engineer prepare plans and specifications for the new bridge in Warwick street. Carried. Proposed by Cr Goodbehere seconded by the Mayor, That the Town Clerk write to Mr Staite in reply to his letter claiming compensation for injury suffered by Mr Blackmore through the late flood, that the Council declines to acknowledge any responsibility or liability in the matter. C;*_ried. The Council then adjourned till Thursday the 25th inst.
