The Hon. Charles Pharazyn will be prosecuted in the Police Court for illegal voting at the late Foxton election.
Ihe survivors from the wrecked ship Lastingham are reported all well. It is understood that Wi Pere, tbe representative for the Eastern Maori Distriot, has accepted a seat in the Kxecutive Council, to which is attached a salary of L4OO per annum. A committee, consisting of members of both Houses of Parliament, is now making enquiry jntb the working of the Sheep and Audit •' Departments throughout the colony, and is inviting evidence from all wbo are able and willing to give it. The steamer Napier returned from Jackson's Head tbis morning, bu», on account of the weather, was unable to get round to the side of the Head on which the ship struck. Parties were' landed on tbis side of the Head and crossed over the hill to where the vessel lay, and found her lying on the port bilge, with tbe mast standing out of the water. Oamabu. Tbis Day. A stable, the property of Dr Fleming, . was destroyed by fire at 3 o'clock this morning. Two horses whioh were in tbe building were also destroyed. The origin of the fire is unknown. Dunbdin, This Day. Tbe body of a man was found in the bay, at the foot of Hanover street, yester, day morning/ It haa been identified as • that of Mr William Frazer, a gentlemnn who arrived here in the ship Nelson a fortnight ago. Mr Frazer had been drinking heavily since his arrival here;-and-last evening he slipped unobserved out of a house in Leith street, where he resided, and had not been heard of since. Mr Frazer formerly carried ou a wine and spirit business at Brighton, Sussex, aud was about 35 years of age.
