In the meantime Germany i»* busy with her fortifications. Her experiences in the late war have led her to adopt n certain model of fortification, to which all the great forts have been assimilated. Strasbnrg, Metx, Mains, ESln. and Posen have all been tlMroughlr fortified after this model, and the War Department have now taken in hand the fortresses of most importance. Knstrian is at present being reconstructed. The citadel is hutorieaUj interesting a* being the scene of Frederick the Great's imprisonment during his father's reign ; bnt much of the old building will be polled down, and a camp capable of accommodating 40,000 men will be laid <mi It is to be protected by six forts, each at a distance of four miles front the town. When toitrin is completed the other minor fortified places of the empire will btf taken in hand. The same model will be adopted for all.-PaU Mail B«d«& :: -- :: - - ri '" '■"■•■' ■■■"■- '
