Larrikinism in Our Places of Worship
TO THE lEXHTOK OF THK STAB.
Sib,— Woojdypn. kindly insert this in your valuable pap,er. ; Itake the liberty to write this because editors are generally supposed to know .j* little about everything, and also to know how ft? suggest a remedy for all evils ; and the great evil I wish to complain of is the disorderly conduct of some of the rising generation in our places of worship,' which is quite unbearable. In our Wesley an" 'ChnVch last Lord's Day morning Mr KeJlbW had to come down from the pulpit and. bring one ot the larrikins to the'front,' antf was so annoyed by some others during the whole service that it was quite gainful for him to preach. In the evening 'if ter theusnal service, during the administering of the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, the rushing round the Chapel outside and the rattling against the: boards and i windows would have led one to suppose that a cage of young leopards had been let loose and were striving to enter., the building at many points. yN^^J^feel sure that if it were mentionea $o->the parents of the young 1 people who dMHhis that they were in danger of being iffy em before the 8.M., r thej[ wb%M be'g&atly shocked. At our neighbours,, the Primitive's Chapel, on this same evening, I was told by one of the officers that the
conduct of several larrikins Vas so outrageous as to do away with most all good of the service. Numbers of respectable people are kept away from ovr-plac.es of worship because they cannot put up with the insnlti and annoyance, or bear to see the Majesty of Hearen continually in. suited by these larrikin*.. Jßy ; inse¥^ng this you will greatly oblige.— 1 an^Ac, MbthoMbt. Feilding, September Ist, 188*7 "'^
