The Salvation Army is about to open a campaign in Napier. The Bank of Australasia has purchased a corner section at Woodville for £750. The creditors in W. Waring Taylor's estate, are likely to deal very gently with the debtor out of consideration for his connections. The Government has granted the application of the Kiwitea Road Board for a cemetery reserve in the Otamakapua Block. The Australian Frozen Meat Company have ceased shipping meat for the home market at present, because of the erection of new machinery. The new plant includes a 1 1 aslam machine, which can supply one hundred thousand feet of cold air per hour. A very important meetins* is called for this evening at Messrs Halcombt: and Sherwill's office of those interested in holding a show under the auspices of the Ransritikei and Manawatu Poultry and Produce Society. It is hoped that there will be a full attendance. A very objectb nable practice obtains in the Public Hall of individuals smoking during public meetings, or entertainments of any kind. This ought to be put a stop to. at once, as it not only endangers the safety of the building, but is particularly offensive to non-smokers. A few days ago the Bachelor of A- ts diplomas were presented at tbe Choral Hall, Auckland, by Bishop Cowie, vice chancellor, delegate to the three successfull Auckland undergraduates at the last University examination. The building of the new coach factory of Mr Rees in Kimbolton road, on the site of the one which was burned down, has been completed by Messrs Berry and Heaid. It is a substantial structure, of ornamental appearance, and is altogether, a great improvement on its predecessor. Mr Rees has now removed bis business from his temporary factory at the immigration barracks to his new premises. Tbe combination kitchen boiler and fire stand invented by Mr Jensen is rapidly growing into public favour.' Orders are coming in so rapidly that the inventor has been compelled to call in tbe assistance of iron founders in another town to make several of tbe castings. In another column we publish a certificate from Messrs Summers and Mayhew. who hare one of them in use. We are perfectly satisfied that these will rapidly supersede the old fashioned arrangements which' are so cumbrous and unwieldy. On the arrival of the Dunedin train on . Wednesday night at Clinton a coffin was produced from the van. supposed to contain the body of the hon. member for Clutha, Mr J. W. Thompson. A buggy and pair, illuminated with torches and Chinese lanterns, and headed by a brass band, drove the supposed body to the cemetery. A guard was kept by some stalwart settlers, who, when informed whose the remains were, refused them admission on the ground that being those of a traitor they were not worthy of Christian burial. The corpse was then dipped in sheep dip, and taken back to the township, where, with all ceremony, it was burnt. With reference to statements which have been published respecting Mr Bradlaugh's connection with the Masonic body and a recent communication, said to have been addressed by that gentlemen to the Prince of Wales, it may not be ont of place to state that Mr Bradlaugh is now understood to.be no longer a member of of the Order. Some years ago he was a member of the High Cross Lodge, at Tottenham, but it is stated that he returned his certificate to the Grand Loui*e when the Prince of . Wales was chosen Grand Master, on the retirement of the Marquis of Ripon, now Governor-General of India. Mr Shailer; photographer, of Palmer- . Ston, notifies elsewhere that he has opened the studio of Mr Fowles, in Manchester street, where he will attend .each Wednesday for a short period. This will be a great accommodotion to local persons wishing, to have their photos or views in the neighborhood taken. Mr Shailer will present to customers, for one month, a full sized cabinet* picture of the original 'for f rapamg. This is an advantage desirable of securing- and as the specimens we have seen are well executed, and are likely to give satisfaction, Mr Shailer's ; enterprise in opening at Feilding will no doubt' meet with its due reward. We call attention tp the new advertisement from Mr Parr, of the American, English and Colonial Coach Factory, Kimbolton road.
