Atkinson Defeated

Br a majority of eight the Government formed by Atkinson was defeated early this morning. Now that the Stoot- j Yogel and the Atkinson party have been equally condemned as unfit to carry on the Government of the country, it will be necessary for some new movement being made in order to remove the dead-lock. Either the Governor must send for a member of the Upper House to undertake 'the formation of a Ministry, or a diSsolu- j tion must follow. We believe that the country at large will demand the la ter if the leaders of the various • parties do no' put their selfish pride in their pockets, and give some indications of an intention ,of performing those duties for which they were sent to Parliament. This mere playing at polities is contemptible, and unworthy of even a second rate debating society. It is very disappointing to find in a Parliament,' which numbers amongst its' members many politicians whose names are almost historical, so few. of those whom the people sent up to represent them are willing to take up positions which their abilities and past experience were believed to have qualified them. The' "great guns" appear to have 11 established a funk " in each other. We sincerely hope that a dissolution will result, and thnt the electors will have another opportunity of weeding out useless and effete professional politicians.
