A Woman Burnt to Death

[PEB UNITED PREPS ASSOCIATION.! Nelson,. This Day. A five-roomed cottage near Hardystreet was discovered on fire at five o'clock last evening, but was soon extinguished. It was then found that the occupant, an old, well-known, and esteemed resident, especially in musical circles, Mrs Scaife, senior, had been burnt to death. Mrs Scaife lived by herself, and had not been seen later than three o'clock, when a visitor left. As the remains were found between the fireplace and the door of the. sitting room, it is surmised her dress became ignited by coming in contact with the -grate, and that she endeavored to escape but fell, when thei fire then spread to the building.
