We will refer to this subject in our next issue. A Nihilist outrage has been reported from Kazau, a town situated on the river Kasanka, 450 miles east of Moscow. Pressure on our space precludes our giving a detailed notice of the performance. Mr Joseph Francis Mansell died at his late residence last night at about 11 o'clock, after a loug and paiuful illness. Mr Mansell arrived with his family on the Manchester Block in 1874. He leaves behind him a widow and a large family of sons and daughters to mourn his loss. Several of these are grown up and are in moderately good positions. At a meeting held at the Fndymion Hotel, Alex. McDonald, Esq., in Ihe chair, it was unanimously resolved that a ploughing match be held at Awahuri. Messrs Adam McDonald, Thomas Fraser, and Alex. Brookie were appointed a committee to select suitable ground and report to the next meeting, to be held on Tuesday, 26th instant Nearly £20 was subscribed in the room. Mr Tower*, ©f Awahuri, whose dogs destroyed a large number of Mr Phillip's sheep, came forward this morning on learning for the first time of the occurrence, and offered, like a man, to pay all damage. Mr Phillip*, who had received three reliable valuations of about £60, agreed, in consideration of this voluntary offer, to forego one-half the amount. Laws of New Zealand.— From a circular now before us, we read that Mr Wilfred Badger, the compiler of " The Whole law of New Zeal And," hai had such satisfactory support accorded his work, that he proposes to bring the laws laws down to 1884, in addition to 1883, as previously announced, Mr Badger appears to have spared no pains or exi>ense in the matter, an he has taken the trouble todegpatch over 8,000 circulars to possible subscribers, at a cost in postage alon<of £40. The form and «ixe of the work is also stated, and there will be added the valuable addition not only of alphabetic* and chronolgieaJ table* but of a general index, specially compiled We recommend iab-nding subscribers to send for a circular at once, and secure copies as early ai possible, v from our knowledge of such publication! 1 ! the first issue i* genemlly disposed of at once, and delay in ordering may cornel many to wait till the publication of a second issue. As will be seen by advertisement, the Great Diorama of the World will appear for the first time this evening at the Town Hall. We have been shown several clippings from leading newspapers, at of which are loud in the praive of this entertainment and describe' it as the best of its kind that has visited this colony. The views are shown by the aid of the great stereepticon, an used at the Royal Polytechnic, London. We are informed that the pictures shown will be 24 x24 feet. This will necessitate the screen being placed outside the protcenitim. The " phenanistoscope " will also be exhibited, which is spoken of as being a most wonderful optical illusion. In addition to the entertainment the manage-, ment will present the audience with several valuable and useful gifts, the leading one. of which' will be a handsrtme silver hunting watch. As, tlpe price of admission is low we expect to^see a. bumper house. The company only appear two nights, and en Monday evening theie will be an em ire change of programme.
