Arson Case at New Plymouth
COMMITTAL OP A WOMAN FOB TEIAL (PEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) New Plymouth, This Day The adjourned inquest on the burning of < harnock's house in 1883 was concluded last evening. Screral additional witnesses were called, and the jury returned the following verdict : — The jury are of opinion that the premises of George Charnock, St. "Aubyn- street were wilfully set on fire on the 20th January, 1883, and the evidence points to Mrs Charnock as the guilty party." The jury added a rider to the effect that credit was due to Sergeant- Major Pardy for the skill he had shown in bringing out the evidence after so long a time had elansed since the fire. The Coroner committed Mrs Chainock for trial on a charge of arson, and Mr Charnock was remanded.
