(PUB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Melbourne, July 30. A scare has been raised lately that the discipline at Pentridge Prison is lax, and that danger exists of an outbreak of the convicts. An investigatioa has been held, with the result of many changes being made in the officials. The Bank of Australasia is now lighted by electricity. James Hawthorn has been found guilty of the murder of his brother at Brighton, in March last, and sentenced to death. Unqualified success attended an experiment in rabbit extinction in the western district. A plough furrow ten miles long was made along the frontage of Mr Gibson's station, from Curdie's Inlet to Gellibrand's River, and laid with phosphorised oats. Mr Gibson now reports that there are not a dozen rabbits left alive between Port Campbell and Gellibrand's. _______^_^_
